Nuclear Industry Asks Energy Secretary For Dedicated Office To Deal With Radwaste Programme
Yucca Mountain in Nevada was designated as the nation’s sole potential disposal site by Congress in 1987, but Congress has not funded the project since 2010.
The American Nuclear Society and seven other prominent nuclear organisations* have sent a letter to energy secretary Jennifer Granholm asking the Department of Energy to establish an office dedicated to developing and managing an integrated nuclear waste storage, transportation, and disposal programme.
