Obama Designates New Chairman Of NRC

15 May (NucNet): US president Barack Obama has designated Gregory Jaczko as chairman of the country’s Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Mr Obama announced the appointment on 13 May 2009. Mr Jaczko will succeed Dale Klein, who became chairman in July 2006 and whose term of office was set to end in June 2011. Mr Klein will remain as a commissioner until that time.

Mr Jaczko was sworn in as an NRC commissioner in January 2005. He has a bachelor's degree in physics and philosophy from Cornell University and a doctorate in physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
