The Swedish parliament rejected a proposal from the nationalist Sweden Democrats to halt the decommissioning of the Ringhals-1 and -2 nuclear power plants and keep the units in commercial operation.The Sweden Democrats had support from three parties but failed to secure a majority. The party’s proposal to give the state-owned utility instructions to reverse its plans to permanently shut down Ringhals-1 and to restart Ringhals-2 lost by a single vote.Ringhals-1 is scheduled to close next year while Ringhals-2 was shut down permanently on 30 December 2019.
