Plans Progress For Orano To Build Reprocessing Facility In China
China has a rapidly expanding nuclear fleet and wants to aquire reprocessing technology.
China and France agreed on Wednesday to finalise by the end of January the cost and location of a nuclear fuel reprocessing facility to be built by Orano, formerly known as Areva.Russia’s Tass news agency reported that the two countries had signed a preliminary agreement for the facility, which could cost around €20bn. The agreement was signed by Zhang Kejian, chairman of China’s State Atomic Energy Administration, and François Jacques, general-director of France’s Atomic and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA).
