19 Sep (NucNet): A state commission has given preliminary approval to Wisconsin Electric Power Company’s sale of the twin-unit Point Beach nuclear power plant to Florida-based FPL Energy in a deal worth almost 1 billion US dollars (USD) (about 715 million euro).
Verbal approval was given yesterday by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission, said the Wisconsin Electric Power Company. A final decision on the sale of the plant is expected on Monday, the company said.
Wisconsin Energy’s We Energies subsidiary will receive about USD 998 million for the plant. Not counting fuel, inventory and other items, Florida-based FPL is paying USD 783 million, or USD 758 per kilowatt, for the plant.
In December 2006, FPL reached an agreement to buy the Point Beach plant from Wisconsin Electric Power Company. At the time, FPL said it expected the sale to be completed in the third quarter of 2007.
Last month, The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved the transfer of the operating licence for the plant to FPL.
