25 Oct (NucNet): The construction teams at the 1,600-megawatt Olkiluoto-3 EPR nuclear unit under construction in Finland have successfully completed the installation of the reactor vessel head, Areva said.

Areva said the installation was “a major step” for the project and marked the completion of the installation of heavy equipment for the reactor, making it the first EPR with a fully equipped reactor vessel ready to accommodate a core of fuel assemblies.

In February 2013, plant owner Teollisuuden Voima Oyj said the start of the regular electricity production at Olkiluoto-3 might be 2016.

The company said it was continuing to evaluate bids as part of the bidding and engineering phase of the proposed Olkiluoto-4 project.
