The Belarus nuclear regulator Gosatomnadzor is ready to start the licensing procedure for the Belarusian-2 nuclear power plant, Olga Lugovskaya, head of regulator Gosatomnadzor, was quoted as saying by state news agency Belta.
“With regard to the licensing process for the operation of Unit 2, I can say that Gosatomnadzor is ready to start it after receiving an application from [state-owned plant operator] BelAES with a set of documents established by law,” Ms Lugovskaya was quoted as saying.
Belta said in May 2018 that a licence application had been submitted for Belarusian-1 and was under review Gosatomnadzor.

Ms Lugovskaya said a safety review for Belarusian-1 is “ongoing”. Gosatomnadzor is also preparing for the first public hearing before issuing the licence for Unit 1. “This will happen as soon as the safety review and conformity assessment are completed,” Belta reported.
There are two 1,109-MW Russian VVER-1200 reactor units under construction at the Belarusian site near the town of Ostrovets close to the border with Lithuania. Construction of Unit 1 began in November 2013 and of Unit 2 in April 2014.
