9 Jun (NucNet): Russia and France have signed a cooperation agreement that will see them work together on a wide range of projects including nuclear energy development strategy, the nuclear fuel cycle, the development of next generation reactors, and radiation safety.
The agreement was signed yesterday between Sergei Kiriyenko, head of Russia’s state nuclear energy company Rosatom, and Bernard Bigot, chairman of the French Commission for Atomic Energy (Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique or CEA).
The agreement replaces and expands upon two previous agreements of 1993 and 2000.
Rosatom said “a large part” of the cooperation will be devoted to spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste reprocessing technology, the decommissioning of nuclear facilities and the production and application of isotopes in medicine and industry.
