26 Sep (NucNet): Rusatom Overseas and the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) have signed a project development agreement for the first phase of a 2,000-megawatt nuclear station in Jordan, they said in a statement.
This phase is aimed at the signing of a contract in one-and-a-half to two years for the construction of a nuclear power plant, the statement said. Rusatom Overseas, a subsidiary of Russia’s state-owned nuclear corporation Rosatom, will supply two AES-92 VVER light water reactors.
The JAEC said in October 2013 that Rusatom Overseas would be a strategic investor in the plant, as well as operate it. Rusatom will finance 49.9 percent of the project’s estimated 10 billion US dollars (7.7 billion euros) cost.
