20 Mar (NucNet): Russia’s state nuclear energy company Atomenergoprom has signed a framework agreement with Toshiba Corporation of Japan to explore cooperation in civilian nuclear energy.

The agreement, signed today, calls for the two companies to begin feasibility studies into various areas of cooperation including design and engineering for the construction of commercial nuclear power plants, manufacturing and maintenance of large nuclear power plant equipment, and front-end civilian nuclear fuel cycle services.

Atomenergoprom, which has been formed to incorporate all Russia’s leading civilian nuclear energy companies into one state-owned organisation, said the agreement could lead to the establishment of a strategic partnership.
