A bipartisan group of senators has introduced a bill intended to facilitate adoption of advanced nuclear technology and directing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to “create a pathway” for conventional energy source sites to be repurposed and used for reactors.The Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy Act, known as the Advance Act, would require the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to review licensing for nuclear reactors and to potentially revise guidance to accelerate authorisation of reactor projects on brownfield sites.
