A study from Harvard University in the US suggests that reprocessing cannot compete economically with the direct disposal of spent nuclear fuel until the price of uranium reaches more than 360 US dollars (USD) per kilogram of uranium (kgU). Figures released by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) last month showed the weighted average price for uranium in 2003 was USD 23.78 per kgu.
