27 Jan (NucNet): Shareholders in Switzerland’s Atel Group today voted in favour of proposals to change the company’s name to Alpiq Holding Ltd.

In December 2008, Atel and Energie Ouest Suisse (EOS) said they would merge to form Alpiq, which will have its operational start on 1 February 2009.

At today’s general meeting of Atel, the last presided over by board chairman Rainer Schaub, proposals to appoint new board members and to move the registered office from Olten to Neuchatel were also approved.

EOS chief executive officer Hans Schweickardt succeeds Mr Schaub and will therefore become chairman of Alpiq. Atel’s chief executive officer (CEO) Giovanni Leonardi becomes Alpiq’s CEO.

Details are available on Atel’s web site (http://www.atel.eu/en/group).
