21 Jan (NucNet): The third round of the tender process for the construction of Turkey’s first nuclear power plant has started with the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority analysing an offer submitted by a consortium led by Atomstroyexport of Russia.
The consortium, comprising of Atomstroyexport, Russian power supplier Inter RAO UES and Turkey’s Park Teknik group, said it had also submitted to the Turkish Electricity Trading and Contracting Company a new commercial offer “revised in line with the changes in the situation on the world market”.
The results of the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority’s analysis will be submitted to Turkey’s Cabinet of Ministers for a final decision.
Turkey is hoping to build its first nuclear plant near the Mediterranean port city of Mersin. The consortium is proposing to build four Russian VVER-1200 reactor units.
Thirteen companies took part in the first stage of the tender process, but the Atomstroyexport consortium was the only bidder to submit all necessary documents in time and its offer remains the only one on the table.
