20 Apr (NucNet): Nuclear fuel manufacturer TVEL says it is getting licences for the right to develop five uranium deposits in south-central Russia with possible reserves of around 30,000 tonnes.

The announcement follows a bidding process that began in December 2006. TVEL’s acting president Anton Badenkov said output from the deposits could reach 2,000 tonnes a year by 2015.

The five deposits have proven reserves of 17,700 tonnes of uranium and probable reserves of another 12,200 tonnes. All five deposits are close to JSC TVEL’s existing Khiagdinskoye uranium deposit.
