UF6 Production Resumes At Port Hope Conversion Facility

18 Jun (NucNet): The Cameco Corporation said yesterday that it had resumed production of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) at its Port Hope conversion facility in Canada's Ontario province.

Production of UF6 at the facility had been suspended since December 2008 because the company said it could not obtain a supply of hydrofluoric acid (HF) on acceptable terms.

However, in May 2009 Cameco announced that it had signed a contract with its historic supplier of HF under terms that were "mutually beneficial" to both sides. HF is a primary feed material for the production of UF6 and Cameco is also in talks with other suppliers to broaden its supply base.
