15 Feb (NucNet): Babcock of the UK has been awarded a framework contract by Magnox Ltd for the retrieval and processing of wet and solid intermediate-level radioactive waste (ILW) across all the Magnox sites in the country.

Work to be carried out under the contract will include the supply of equipment and technical support to retrieve and process waste for storage in containers for final disposal.

The work will be carried out across all 10 Magnox sites: Berkeley, Bradwell, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Sizewell A, Chapelcross, Oldbury, Wylfa, Trawsfynydd and Hunterston A.

Babcock said the value of the framework contract is expected to be 300 million pounds (483 million US dollars, 357 million euro) over 10 years.
