25 Oct (NucNet): Unit 3 at phase two of the Qinshan nuclear power plant (Qinshan II-3) in China’s eastern province of Zhejiang began commercial operation on 21 October 2010, China National Nuclear Corporation said in a statement.

CNNC built the 650-megawatt pressurised water reactor with indigenous technology and 77 percent local content.

There were already two 610-megawatt Chinese-type PWR units in operation at Qinshan phase two.

A fourth reactor is under construction and scheduled for commercial operation in 2012, CNNC said.

China now has 13 nuclear reactors in commercial operation and 24 under construction.
