14 May (NucNet): A conference in the US aims to help nuclear professionals understand power uprate projects such as those being carried out at nuclear plants by Entergy, Dominion and Constellation Energy.
The 3rd Annual Nuclear Power Uprate Conference is being held on 20 and 21 June 2012 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Organisers Nuclear Energy Insider said 24 power uprate applications are expected by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission in the next four years and the conference will offer delegates the opportunity to understand the lessons learned and prepare for the next wave of uprate work.
Exelon, the largest nuclear operator in the US, has estimated a power uprate investment cost of $2.2 million to $2.5 million (1.7 million euro to 1.9 million euro) per added megawatt, about half that of a new reactor, the organisers said.
Delegates at the conference will also be able to tour the Siemens energy turbine and generator manufacturing and service facility in Charlotte.
