The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) has hosted the 3rd Global Nuclear Communications Forum (GNCF) in London, marking a step in advancing the role of communication within the global nuclear industry.

The global nuclear safety organisation said the event, from 4-5 June at WANO’s headquarters, brought together 45 senior communicators and industry stakeholders from 15 countries to explore new areas in effective communication.

“This year’s forum made clear that communications is not just a support function – it’s a strategic driver of progress across the nuclear sector,” said WANO chief executive officer Dr Naoki Chigusa.

“We’re seeing communications play a pivotal role in driving performance at operating plants and facilities worldwide. Communications also plays a vital role in enabling plant restarts, life extensions, new builds, and the deployment of advanced technologies.”

Dr Chigusa said the GNCF is helping to turn global dialogue into practical tools that benefit all operators – regardless of where they are in their nuclear journey.

WANO said in a media realise that discussions focused on harnessing digital innovation, responding to stakeholder expectations and navigating the shifting communication landscape.

WANO is a not-for-profit international safety organisation whose members operate around 450 nuclear units in over 30 countries and areas.

WANO told NucNet recently that it is rolling out a new service to provide more frequent feedback to members – as it steps up its work to support nuclear operators and new entrants in further increasing the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants worldwide.
