The first inner steel lining module has been lifted into place for the reactor building of the Zhangzhou-1 nuclear power plant in China’s eastern Fujian province, China National Nuclear Corporation said.

According to CNNC, the lifting has laid the foundation for the construction of the main structure of the interior of the reactor building and is expected to speed up the construction of the Hualong One reactor unit.

CNNC said the inner steel lining is a main component for the concrete containment building which will house the plant’s reactor.

Construction of Zhangzhou-1 began on 16 October 2019. The plant was the first new commercial nuclear project to be approved by China in three years.

The Hualong One, or HPR1000, is an indigenous 1,000-MW, three-loop pressurised water reactor. It incorporates elements of CNNC’s ACP1000 and China General Nuclear’s ACPR1000+ reactor designs.
