Commission Calls For ‘More Ambition’ In National Plans
Draft national plans to implement the EU’s energy union objectives represent “significant efforts”, but more ambition is needed to set the bloc on the right track in fighting climate change and modernising its economy, the European commission said. The commission, which has published its assessment of member states’ draft plans to implement the EU's Energy Union objectives, and in particular the agreed EU 2030 energy and climate targets, said the draft plans fall short both in terms of renewables and energy efficiency contributions, and reaching the EU’s overall climate and energy goals will require “a collective step up of ambition”.Maroš Šefčovič, vice-president for the energy union, said member states have all produced impressive drafts in a relatively short time, but no draft is perfect.
