A consortium led by Ansaldo Nucleare of Italy has won a €10m contract from the European Commission for a pre-conceptual fusion reactor design that will build on knowledge gained from the $20bn International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (Iter) project in France and the Joint European Torus (Jet) facility in England.
