The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) has appointed Ingemar Engkvist as its new chief executive officer.

Mr Engkvist will officially take up the position on 1 January 2020, replacing current CEO Peter Prozesky, who began his tenure in January 2016.

Mr Engkvist has been director of the WANO Paris Centre since 2016. Prior to joining Wano, he had been managing director at E.ON Nuclear Sweden from 2010 to 2015 and OKG AB from 2011 to 2012 and the senior vice president of E.ON Nuclear Sweden from 2007 to 2010.

He has been on the board of all nuclear companies in Sweden and chairman of OKG AB. He has also held several site-level positions in the Swedish nuclear industry.

Mr Engkvist has a PhD in nuclear chemistry from the University of Gothenburg.

His appointment was made at WANO’s governing board meeting in Prague on 20 June 2019.
