Delegates focus on issues including industry performance and enhanced monitoring
Chief nuclear operators meeting at a forum in Budapest, Hungary, have agreed the next steps members will take with support from the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) to accelerate progress towards operational excellence.
WANO hosted the annual Global Chief Nuclear Officers’ (CNO) Forum from 20-21 October.
The theme of the forum was ‘Influencing Industry Sustainability via CNO Strategic Planning and Mutual Support’.
WANO said it was a unique opportunity for CNOs to share challenges, discuss solutions and exchange information and best practices with their international counterparts to drive performance.
Speakers from WANO members worldwide presented on topics including the latest trends driving industry performance, how members are benefiting from enhanced performance monitoring, the value of members sending employees on WANO secondments, how organisational effectiveness drives continuous improvement, and strategic planning.
Naoki Chigusa, WANO’s chief executive officer, said: “The journey towards excellence is never ending and, as an industry, we are committed to continuous improvement.”
WANO is a not-for-profit international organisation that helps its members maximise the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants worldwide. It was established in 1989 by the world's nuclear power operators
Earlier this year WANO told NucNet it was rolling out a new service to provide more frequent feedback to members – as it steps up its work to support nuclear operators and new entrants in further increasing the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants worldwide.
The service, called enhanced performance monitoring, is the result of a mandate from its members for “clear, simple targets on how best to shape the industry’s future to help members more rapidly and sustainably improve performance”.
