New Areva Nuclear Joint Venture In China

24 Jun (NucNet): France’s Areva group has announced the creation of a joint venture in China with the China Nuclear Power Technology Research Institute (CNPRI), a subsidiary of existing Areva group partner CGNPC (China GuangDong Nuclear Power Company).

Areva said yesterday that as a result of forming the Beijing-based joint venture – BRIC (Beijing-RIC) – Areva had already signed a contract to supply incore reactor instrumentation and control systems for two reactors at the Ningde nuclear power plant in China’s Fujian province.

First concrete was poured at Ningde-1 in February 2008 and at Ningde-2 in November 2008. The first phase of Ningde’s construction will comprise of four second-generation 1,000-megawatt Chinese-type pressurised water reactor (CPR1000) units.
