No Decision Made On Site For New Nuclear, Says Governor
Amandyk Batalov, governor of the Almaty region, said no site has been chosen.
Several options have been put forward for a site for the construction of Kazakhstan’s first commercial nuclear power plant, but no decision has been made, reports said.Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom quoted officials as saying options for a nuclear site include Ulken, near Lake Balkhash in the Almaty region of southeast Kazakhstan, and certain areas of East Kazakhstan. The reports appear to contradict a statement in April by the deputy energy minister who said Kazakhstan had decided on Lake Balkhash as a site.
