Uzatom Approves Projects As Preparations Continue For New Nuclear

Uzatom, the agency responsible for preparing and implementing Uzbekistan’s national policies for the use of nuclear energy, has approved four projects proposed by the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency.The projects are part of a technical cooperation programme between Uzbekistan and the Vienna-based agency and are aimed at building up technical capacity, human resources, developing nuclear infrastructure, and strengthening nuclear and radiation safety.The programme provides for the strengthening of nuclear and radiation safety in the operation of nuclear facilities in Uzbekistan, the development and implementation of modern nuclear technologies in medicine and other sectors of the economy, and the dissemination of nuclear knowledge.
